SAN DIEGO COUNTY INDUSTRY CLUSTER REPORT
In-depth studies of the workforce in growing local industry clusters.
NEW Food Manufacturing and Distribution Industry Sector in Otay Mesa. The study, commissioned by the South County Economic Development Council, looks at three subsectors - food manufacturing, wholesale food distribution, and warehousing and storage - in the Otay Mesa and the South County areas and the San Diego County region. The study provides information on the number of firms, employees, and the economic impact of the industry on the region's economy. (44 page pdf)
NEW Renewable Energy Occupations Summary, January 2010. The industry is comprised of firms engaged in the development, manufacturing, installation, and servicing, or maintenance and operation of solar energy, wind power, geothermal power, or other renewable energy (such as biofuels development, or hydro-electric). The industry, and many of its occupations, is still emerging with changing responsibilities and evolving skill sets. This document synthesizes the data collected from a recent survey of renewable energy employers in San Diego and Imperial Counties. The survey was conducted in July 2009 in coordination with the San Diego/Imperial Region's Center of Excellence. (32 page pdf)
NEW Growing the Green Economy - Employer Trends and Analysis, February 2010. San Diego boasts one of the highest concentrations of green employers in the nation, recently reported as being among the top ten cities for green jobs. This report includes information gathered from those employers through an internet survey and executive interviews, focused on hiring trends, obstacles to growth, and policy recommendations to local, state, and federal leaders. NEW Energy Efficiency Occupations in the San Diego-Imperial Region. Developed by the Centers of Excellence at Cuyamaca College, this study covers the energy efficiency sector and related occupations. It provides estimates on the number, size, and geographic concentration of firms; projects job growth in energy efficiency occupations; and defines skill sets and educational requirements. NEW Occupational Profiles for Emerging Careers in San Diego & Imperial Counties was developed at Cuyamaca College. It provides customized green occupational profiles that contain occupational descriptions, wages, knowledge, skills and abilities, tasks and activities, tools and technology, and education and training which are needed to understand careers and opportunities in the emerging green economy in San Diego and Imperial Counties. San Diego's Healthcare Sector, 2006 is a significant component of the regional economy. The Workforce Partnership's three healthcare publications (2006) provide information on the sector and its occupations, as well as recommendations on how to ensure that San Diego has the healthcare workforce it needs. Healthcare Jobs, a booklet for youth that describes the employment opportunities in the healthcare sector in the county; a healthcare poster that graphically displays a variety of career opportunities in several career ladders in the healthcare industry. San Diego's Hospitality Industry, 2006 is a large component of the regional economy. The Workforce Partnership's three hospitality publications (2006) provide information on the industry and its occupations, as well as recommendations on how to ensure that San Diego has the hospitality workforce it needs. Hospitality brochures in Spanish and English that describe job opportunities and career paths in the hospitality industry in the region.
